The Phone Call

image

She summoned the strength
To fix the ugly mess
She saw in the mirror,
But what really needed fixing
Was her wounded heart!

Her phone rang…

Him:
Baby where are you?
Please come home?
We can fix this, I promise!
It’s all a huge misunderstanding!!!
Can we just talk this out like always?

Her:
I’m at a hotel.
I couldn’t breathe, Jack.
Finding that note damn near killed me!
How could you do this to me?
How could you do this to us?

Him:
I’m sorry, Mary,
I was just being playful.
I really didn’t mean anything by it.
I joke around with everyone at the office.
You know how I am!

Her:
Yes, I know you’re playful,
It’s one of the things I love about you,
But there has to be something
That made her think
There was more to your playfulness.

Him:
Honestly Mary, I don’t know!
I’m the same way with her
As I am with everyone.
I honestly don’t know
What made her think there was more!

Her:
Jack, please don’t play me for a fool?
Don’t play the dumb card with me.
You should know by now
I see right through that kind of crap!
I’ve dated enough sleezy guys to know.
I thought you were different!

Him:
Mary, please, I’m not lying.
Nothing happened!

Her:
Just answer me one question,
Are you attracted to her?
A woman can tell
By simple actions
If a guy is into her.

Long pause…

Him:
Well she is attractive…

Her:
You took way too long
To answer my question, Jack.
I’m starting to think
You’re not as innocent
As you’d like me to believe.

      1. Yes, I feel that way about him too. Even if looks may play a role in attraction I don’t think it should carry as much weight as people allow it to. Attraction goes far beyond looks for me. Mental stimulation is is extremely important in keeping me interested beyond just the physical. Problem is if we are honest with ourselves and with others all these little dating games would become so unnecessary. Open, honest communication is key to solving many problems.

      2. Respect for you on that comment. I tend to run away from conventionally hot looking guys. Guys who don’t make too much of an effort and carry it off are more of my style. A mental connection is a priority in my book.
