You smell yummy…

She leaned in,

Buried her nose in my neck,

Took a deep breath and said,

“You smell yummy!”

***

Surprised,

I laughed,

Then thanked her kindly.

It had been a while

Since anyone invaded my space this way

To pay me such a nice compliment!

***

Her big beautiful eyes

Looked straight into mine,

Then she kissed me loudly

On my cheek and said again,

“You smell so yummy!”

***

At that moment

My heart swelled so big

I thought it would burst,

For just the day before

We were fighting

Like cats n dogs —

Using words that dug deep as daggers.

***

But today, her words mended my wounds

And renewed hope in our survival.

I hugged her ever so tightly

Then sang to her our favorite song…

***

You are my sunshine

My only sunshine

You make me happy

When skies are gray

You’ll never know dear

How much I love you

Please don’t take

My sunshine away

***

She beamed with delight as I sang,

Looking me straight in the eye,

Then gave me the biggest hug ever

As she said,

“I love you mummy! “

To which I replied,

“I love you too munchkin! “

    1. Yes they are!
We’ve been butting heads lately as she fights for independence:
      – not wanting to hold my hand to cross the street
      – wanting to pick out her own clothes
      – wanting to fix her own hair (which means not combed at all)
      – wanting to make her own breakfast after I’ve already done so but she doesn’t want what I’ve made (this one burns me up!)
      – and on and on
So having her show a softer side out of the blue really made me melt 🙂

    1. Ahh yes, this little girl is so different from my two older boys. She certainly keeps me on my toes.

      Ex
If I give her toast 3 days in a row and she doesn’t eat it, I may decide to omit it on day 4 and guess what? She wonders why I didn’t give her any toast? If I add toast on day 5, guess what? She asks why I gave her toast! Unbelievable. The kid is lucky she gets breakfast at all (lol). Boy does she know how to push my buttons! But I love her to bits, what can I say…

Thanks for reading and commenting. Hope you’ve been well…
