My broken pieces

image

I saved them —
the broken pieces of my heart
left behind by years of heartache and pain.

I placed them in a box —
a safe place out of reach
from any further damage.

I carried on  —
hoping to mend them one day
but somehow life got in the way.

I needed them when we met —
but couldn’t quite remember
my secret hiding place.

I felt your lips meet mine —
our broken pieces are still locked away;
we both need mending still.

I don’t know if we’ll fit perfectly —
but I like having your hand to hold.
I think the healing has begun.

Depth.
Our conversations
should be meaningful
deeper than just the surface.

Worth.
Our values should go beyond
the man-made idols we create.
Melancholy regret
should be something
we try to avoid
as we strive in earnest
to learn from our past mistakes.

Respect.
In order to respect each other,
we must first respect
the Creator who made us.
He gave us guidelines
for how we should treat
our fellow man.
No one should be made
to feel like a toy —
played with then discarded
when the amusement dwindles.

Balance.
Be fair, it’s that simple!
What’s good for you
should also be good for me.
Entitlement is the reward
of effort and input.
Words and actions
should be in sync.
A gift given from the heart
should not come
with strings attached.
Let reciprocity be free
and not pressured.

Love.
Show me your heart
as I will show you mine.

Missing Nina

image

Clenched in her fist
She held the red pendant
Given to her
By her best friend Nina.

The memories of
Their childhood fun together
Flooded her mind endlessly.
She was motionless.

How sad to think
Her best friend was now gone!
Such a beautiful spirit.
Such an independent soul.

The funeral was just 2 hours away.
She still had no clue what to say.
A eulogy? How inappropriate!
Nina visits her all the time.

They sit and talk and laugh for hours.
To her, Nina was very much alive.
How does one speak of someone
Who is alive as if they were dead?

“Mary honey, it’s time to go say goodbye…”
“OK mom, I’ll be right there!”
Mary walked into the chapel
And stood at the opening of the casket.

There, in a beautiful pink dress,
Laid her childhood friend.
Leaning in close,
Mary kissed her cheek.

Then, she whispered in Nina’s ear,
“How do I speak of you
Without using the phrase
I see dead people?”

There was a knock on the door…

Jack:
Mary, you’ve been
locked in there for ages.
Please let me in?
Can we please take about this?
Mary please let me explain?

Mary had been crying for so long that she drifted off to sleep. She hadn’t thought about her friend Nina much since she left Missouri. She needed to get away from her problems for a while. Perhaps it was time to pay Nina’s grave a visit.

On Cloud Nine

You make me smile
You make me sing
You make me dance
You make me happy
You make me fly
I’m on cloud nine!

Don’t take your blessings for granted…

Today I have much to be thankful for, but for now, I will only list 3 to keep this short:

1. Life:
I’m grateful to be fairly healthy and active and that I’m in a culture of great opportunity, free speech, freedom to love whomever I choose and not have that decision made for me.

2. Love:
I’m blessed to have a huge heart so full of love and that I’m not afraid to share such an amazing treasure with others. My little family fills me with joy everyday which extents to those around me as well as to all of you.

3.This blog:
I feel so fortunate to have this medium through which I can voice my thoughts and feelings and for the wonderful connections I’m making with all of you along the way. I love it here!

Feel free to pause for moment to thank God for something. We have so much to be grateful for, and it’s unfortunate that we often take those things for granted.

Hugs to you all and best wishes for a wonderful day! ☺ 🌷

Finding strength in friendship…

img_0785-33

image

In the silence
When I can’t hear your voice
I try to imagine the direction
I should look to find you.

I’m not great
With such spacial orientations.
North,  South,  East, West?
They all seem to leave me puzzled.

But somehow, without fail,
I seem to find your heart
Because you are searching
For mine too.

Your soul reaches over
The many obstacles
Which others find daunting
And it finds mine.

I keep thinking
One day your eyes
Would dig too deep
And see unsightly parts of me,

And just like that
Your soul would finally stop
Searching for mine
And disappear into the shadows.

So I try to think of reasons
You shouldn’t look so closely,
But you’re not the superficial type
You live for depth, you’re not afraid.

You don’t mind getting messy
And it amazes me
That you aren’t deterred
By the state of my garden.

You’re willing to help me
Till the stubborn soil
To soften and mulch,
To plant new seeds of love.

Like the seasons
My Spring will soon come.
And hopefully,  those seeds
Will bloom into something wonderful.

So I hope you’ll stick around
To bear witness to your handiwork,
To see how much I’ve grown
Because of you.

No need to explain

image

There’s no need to explain why I’m here
With you such small-talk is unnecessary.
You get me better than anyone
Yet with such intimacy
You never force me to stay.

You know it’s better
That I come in search of you
Than to have you come barging in my door —
It’s the only way I’ll fully appreciate your love.

You know I always come back,
I can’t stay away too long.
Your humility and grace are powerful;
I’m drawn to the peace that surrounds you.

I crave peace —
That satisfaction of solving the puzzle —
Perhaps because my existence
Is froth with complications.
Yet you seem to take delight
In seeing me in action
Trying to solve for “X”  —
The algebraic equation of my life.

You’re waiting patiently
For me to say it,  aren’t you?
Okay then,  well here goes…
I’m here because I missed you.
I will always come back to you
For in you I am truly alive.

This is what I crave…

Annabel Lee

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes! – that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.
