The best thing about falling
Is knowing someone is there to catch her.
Letting go feels amazing!
No more walls to keep her safe,
Just freedom to be herself
And be accepted as she is.

I loved you madly
But the you I loved wasn’t real
And so ended the fairytale

You blew through my mind like a tornado
Causing quite a stir as always.
It’s been a while since I thought of you,
Where have you been?
You stole my heart once
But it wasn’t yours to keep.
I was not yet ready
For the adventures you had in mind,
Nor the secrets you weren’t prepared to share.
You always knew how to make me smile though…
A little unsure, a little wild, a little twisted
But always sweet — to me anyway.
Thanks for returning my heart in one piece!
What brings you back to these here parts?
I thought you were gone for good!
Is it possible that I’m in your thoughts as well?
If so, thanks for thinking of me —
And thanks for the memories!
Hope you’ve been kind to yourself,
Or at least found someone
Who’s been treating you well.
You deserve to be happy,
I’ve always wanted that for you and still do.

I stopped by to say hello,
perhaps to chat for a while
but I did not enter
for what I saw from outside
made me rethink my purpose in your life
and yours in mine.
You seemed happy in your misery,
bored — in need of excitement
for there is none where you are.
But then it occurred to me
that I am your excitement
and nothing more —
something to distract you
from the misery you love —
too lazy to create happiness you seek
you took the easy way out —
to prey on the weak.
And when the fun becomes serious
and more than you bargained for
leaving your prey
lost and confused.
So I will visit no more
for I see you now
for what you really are,
no better than all the others
happily miserable in your life
and useless to me in mine.
As you were soldier,
no need to stand at attention
no more need for formalities
the show is over — Goodbye!

So this week I witnessed something wonderful. My daughter and I saw a caterpillar crawling along the wall by the kitchen window and deduced we may have brought it in with us when we picked flowers earlier in the day. So we decided to take care of it — give it food and water and a place to live — a covered bowl with air holes into which we put leaves and water in a bottle cap.
The next day, to our amazement, the caterpillar wasn’t moving! It had crawled under a leaf and appeared dead. We were both a little sad but I decided to touch it just to make sure. Fantastic, it was still alive! Upon further investigation, it turned out it had shed its skin and its shape was slowly changing. We kept observing for a few more days, all the while doing the touch test to make sure it was still alive. Amazingly, shapes of little wings were becoming visible. It was transforming into a butterfly.
I wasn’t sure how long the entire process was supposed to take, and kept forgetting to do the research. And then TODAY we saw the butterfly! It was healthy, and beautiful. My little munchkin wanted to do the honors of releasing her into the sky and so she did. And then our little ‘foster child’ flew off ready to live the next chapter of its life. Transformations are wonderful. Nature is wonderful. Life is wonderful. There is still beauty amid the chaos you just have to know where to look. Enjoy!

You know my every need
You’ve fulfilled my unspoken desires
And disregarded impulsive wants
For you know they profit me only for a moment
But will never satisfy my internal longing for something more
Fill my heart with your love now and always
Radiate your warmth in and around me
Move me to new heights that pull me closer to you
And catch me when I’m falling into bouts of despair
I ache for you to be in my life always
For you are my EVERYTHING!
This poem/prayer was inspired by the Crossword clue: syllable after head or belly (4 letters) 🙂

She wears a ring
But it’s not on her wedding finger
There are words inscribed
That he cannot read
So he asks to take a closer look
But it’s just an excuse
To hold her hand

I fell for it.
All the lies they told me.
The fairytale of happily ever after.
Little girls growing up to be princesses – –
Damsels in distress.
Little boys becoming princes – –
Knights in shining armor.
None of those things happened for me
And here I am reading the same stories
To my little girl.
To tell her the same lies seems wrong!
And yet, what if I’m wrong?
What if she grows up to have her fairytale?
What if her prince charming comes?
What if she gets her happily ever after?
I can’t bare to take away her hope,
After all, that’s what those stories are about, right?
We all want happiness.
We all need HOPE!
The hopeless romantic that I am,
Though embittered by life’s cruel tricks
As though under the wicked witch’s spell,
Can’t take away someone else’s hope
Especially not the hope of my own child.
Hope is what we crave!
So I read her the fairytales
And watch her light up at every word
Then I tell her the truth, my truth,
Praying she’ll stay close
To God’s guiding hand
So He can work His magic – –
Creating for her the happy ending
He knows is best for her.
So what if THIS is my happy ending?
It certainly doesn’t feel like it,
But what if it is?
What if THIS is the fairytale
God saw fit for me to have?
Perhaps I’m supposed to write new stories – –
Stories that show a different kind of happy ending – –
Stories for little boys and girls of the future.
What if my fairytale has an ending
That simply hasn’t been written yet?
Well, what if they didn’t lie AFTER ALL!!!
My little girl is growing up so fast!
In many ways I need her to,
Then on days when I need to shield her
From this harsh world
I hold her tight
And pray she keeps her innocence.
I can’t shield her forever, I know,
But I pray that her life turns out
A lot less cruel than mine.
So here’s to happy endings!
If you’ve already found yours
I’m happy for you.
But to those of us
Here’s to writing the stories
That need to be told.
Here’s to telling the truth,
Your truth, my truth, our truth!
Here’s to changing the future
Not just for ourselves
But for our little ones too.
Here’s to having HOPE
And here’s to writing
Our own happy ending!
