How badly do you want it?

image

If you want something bad enough
you’ll find a way to get it.
Success isn’t necessarily measured
by how tall you stand
but by having the perseverance
to keep on trying even when you fall.

How determined are you?

Is your agenda pure and healthy
or is it at the expense of others?
Do your accomplishments
usurp someone else’s happiness?

How fair are you?

When you climb to the next step,
do you share your success secrets
or do you leave behind the ones
who’ve helped you along the way?

How grateful are you?

Are you ready to push?
Are you ready to fight through the pain?
Are you ready to rise?
Are you strong enough to keep on climbing?

How brave are you?

Today is a good day…

image

The air is light today.
I can feel my lungs
Opening up to full capacity.
I can feel the oxygen
Coursing through my veins.

There’s a spring in my step,
My mind is alert and productive.
I sprinted to the bus,
Dashed to the train,
Poured my thoughts out
Which made room
For new ideas.

This awesome feeling
Is truly an incredible experience.
Days like these are to be treasured
And not taken for granted.
I feel blessed…

Finding strength in friendship…

img_0785-33

image

In the silence
When I can’t hear your voice
I try to imagine the direction
I should look to find you.

I’m not great
With such spacial orientations.
North,  South,  East, West?
They all seem to leave me puzzled.

But somehow, without fail,
I seem to find your heart
Because you are searching
For mine too.

Your soul reaches over
The many obstacles
Which others find daunting
And it finds mine.

I keep thinking
One day your eyes
Would dig too deep
And see unsightly parts of me,

And just like that
Your soul would finally stop
Searching for mine
And disappear into the shadows.

So I try to think of reasons
You shouldn’t look so closely,
But you’re not the superficial type
You live for depth, you’re not afraid.

You don’t mind getting messy
And it amazes me
That you aren’t deterred
By the state of my garden.

You’re willing to help me
Till the stubborn soil
To soften and mulch,
To plant new seeds of love.

Like the seasons
My Spring will soon come.
And hopefully,  those seeds
Will bloom into something wonderful.

So I hope you’ll stick around
To bear witness to your handiwork,
To see how much I’ve grown
Because of you.

Building Bridges…

image

The bridges we build
Can lead us to places unknown.
Friendships that become
more than just a passing glance
can start with just a simple smile.

A polite “Hello” or “How are you? ”
can lead to a mutual understanding.
Things we have in common
are what binds us together
and makes us feel like we belong.
No one wants to feel alone.
We are all pieces of a large puzzle,
each of us having a unique purpose.

The bridges we build
need not be traveled alone,
for we can all use a hand to hold.
But if a bit of solitude is necessary,
please don’t break those bridges down
after you’ve crossed,
for others may want to follow
in your footsteps.

Be proud of your journey,
and remember to be present
in all the moments of your life.
May the bridges you cross
lead you to your destiny.
May your life story
keep traveling
long after you’ve passed on
from this world,
continuing to build bridges
as did you.

Share the love…

We met at the glove aisle.
Well, it wasn’t an entire aisle, just a rack against a wall in a strategic location – – an after thought of sorts.

The rack was picked clean, and only the not so attractive items remained – – slim pickings on this frigid winter day.

You needed a scarf and gloves while I just needed gloves as my last pair were kidnapped by my eldest over the weekend. As I made my way through the fugly selection of women’s driving gloves and few faux leather men’s gloves, you approached and became visibly discouraged by the remnants. You were immediately drawn to the gloves in my hand since they were thick and super comfortable so I’m pointed them out on the rack but noted they were for women. You didn’t believe me as they seemed so masculine. I agreed and encouraged you to get them instead.

There’s no way I’d be able to wear these without getting a few strange looks!

You agreed, but not without grabbing a pair and proceeding to search for the section with scarves.

Of course, the good stuff was gone and we both busted out laughing when you held up a fuzzy puppy dog scarf appropriate for a 5 year old but certainly not a grown up. You said,

Now that’s a bit too much. Think I’ll pass!

I agreed and you put it back and headed off in search of something more suitable as we bade each other farewell and Happy New Year.

What a laugh that was!

I had been busy and rushing all day with not much time to rest or have a proper lunch. And there I was with only 10 minutes to spare to find a pair of gloves to fight off this New Year deep freeze before plunging neck deep into my rush hour commute.

That moment of laughter turned my mood around and gave me a smile to last the whole sardine-packed, train ride home. I needed that laugh and it came just in time!

I’ve shared this little anecdote to remind us to:

Brighten someone’s day!
Share a smile
Or better yet
Share a laugh.
You never know
When your kind gesture
Would make all the difference.
Share the love…

Hugs,
A.

Just for laughs

Waking up with a smile is the best way to start your day. Surround yourself with things or people that make you happy. Better yet, have a good laugh,  it does the body good.

Have yourself a wonderful day!! 😀

Hugs,

A.

The Evidence and Power of Faith…

image

Believing in something or someone, not knowing the final outcome of your belief is my loose definition of faith.

We can place our faith in people, but sometimes, that can prove futile. So for me, I choose to place my faith in God, for He is the only one who always keeps His promises.

Evidence of faith in God, plus the power and benefits thereof, are scattered all over the Bible. But here in Hebrews Chapter 11, those occurrences have been condensed for a quick review on the power of Faith.

This was my morning devotion on Sat Aug 27, 2016. Hope you find God’s word to be a blessing for you now and always. Be blessed.

Hugs,
A.🌷

Hebrews: 11.
1. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2. For by it the elders obtained a good report.
3. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
4. By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
5. By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
6. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
7. By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
8. By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
10. For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
11. Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
12. Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
13. These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
15. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
16. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
17. By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
18. Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
19. Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
20. By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
21. By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.
22. By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.
23. By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
24. By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
25. Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
26. Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
27. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
28. Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
29. By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
30. By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
31. By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.
32. And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
33. Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
35. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
36. And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
37. They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
38. (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
39. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
40. God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
